Sarcopenia is rooted in adverse muscle changes characterized by the reduction of skeletal muscle mass or/and strength. In liver, cirrhosis sarcopenia is defined by loss of muscle mass, strength and decreased functional capacity. Intervention strategies to prevent or reverse sarcopenia are currently focused mainly on nutrition and physical activity. Dietary management should be implemented for every sarcopenic patient, with a regular follow-up aimed at response evaluation. It is important to note that dietary interviews provide practical information for nutritional interventions by identifying and determining specific nutrient deficiencies needed to be corrected. The main goal given the challenges associated with reversing sarcopenia, should be early prevention and intervention.
