Challenges of the Dietitian/Nutritionist Around the World: Who We Are, Where We Come From, and Where We Are Going

The European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) had the honour of participating in the ICND2024 inauguration ceremony in Toronto, Canada. EFAD’s President, Annemieke Van Ginkel-Res, joined esteemed colleagues from around the world, including Dr. Giuseppe Russolillo, President of the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations (ICDA); Dr. Teiji Nakamura, President of the Asian Federation of Dietetic Associations (AFDA); and Marcia Samia Pinheiro Fidelix, President of the Alianza Iberoamericana de Nutricionistas (AIBAN).

Valuable insights were shared on the topic “Challenges of the Dietitian/Nutritionist Around the World: Who We Are, Where We Come From, and Where We Are Going.” This discussion highlighted the evolving role of dietitians and nutritionists worldwide, focusing on collective achievements and future goals.

Presenting the EFAD Budapest Resolution and Hosting a Workshop on Continuous Professional Development

EFAD is dedicated to advancing the profession and addressing global health challenges through collaboration and innovation. The organization had the opportunity to present the EFAD Budapest Resolution at ICND2024 in Toronto, where it was warmly received by participants.

EFAD also hosted the workshop “Sharing Continuous Professional Development,” featuring presentations from EFAD Executive Director Wineke Remijnse, EFAD Treasurer Pauline Douglas, with Annemieke Van Ginkel-Res and Clare Corish (Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute, INDI), as moderators, and Anne Griffin RD (EFAD’s ELLC) and Claire O’Brien (Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute, INDI) on the panel. The workshop fostered vibrant discussions on sharing experiences and collaboration worldwide, addressing challenges such as language barriers, costs, and cultural differences.

With the motto, “Not one of us doing it alone, all of us doing it together,” EFAD reaffirms that Nutritional Care is a Human Right.

EFAD expresses gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of nutritional care globally. EFAD extends sincere thanks to colleagues in Canada for hosting a wonderful congress and to colleagues in Ireland, who will organize and host the ICND Congress in 2028 in Dublin. EFAD also thanks ICDA for making this worldwide congress possible, with 62 countries represented from across the globe.
